Hosted by Legal Week (organisers of The British Legal Awards) and the ACC Middle East group, the Corporate Counsel Middle East Awards have firmly established themselves as a highlight of the region's legal calendar.
The awards, which are now in their fourth year, celebrate legal excellence in the Middle East and are open to in-house legal teams and law firms operating throughout the region.
Last year's event saw the cream of the Middle East legal community gather in Dubai for a glittering awards ceremony, which was introduced by Elias Hayek, president of Association of Corporate Counsel (ACC) Middle East and vice president, legal, EAME division, Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide. Elias is also chair of this year's judging panel, which is made up of senior in-house lawyers and other legal and business figures from the region.
Categories for this year's awards include General Counsel of the Year, Legal Department of the Year (small team and large team), Middle East Law Firm of the Year and International Law Firm of the Year. There are also a series of sector-based awards to celebrate the achievements of law firm teams working across the Middle East as well as separate innovation and CSR awards for law firms and in-house legal departments. A new practice area category - Middle East Litigation Team of the Year - is specifically designed to recognise the work of lawyers exercising rights of audience in local courts in the region. There is also now a separate International Dispute Resolution Team of the Year award for team's working on cross-border disputes.
The awards ceremony will take place at Raffles Dubai, United Arab Emirates on Thursday 14 May 2015. It is scheduled for the day after the annual networking forum for general counsel, Legal Week Corporate Counsel Forum Middle East.
